Durante il conflitto mondiale venne utilizzato in larga misura nel teatro libico, in Grecia e Jugoslavia. Nonostante fosse largamente superato, dopo l'8 settembre L3 venne ancora impiegato dai reparti della Repubblica sociale nelle missioni anti-partigiani. Derived from the Carden-Loyd Mk VI tankette, and armed with two Fiat Mod. 14\/35 8 mm machine guns, it was used in Ethiopia and during the Spanish Civil War, where on some vehicles the armament was enhanced with the installation of a 20 mm Solothurn anti-tank rifle. During the World War it was used to a large extent in the Libyan theater, in Greece and Yugoslavia.
