Derivato dal tankette Carden-Loyd Mk VI, e armato con due mitragliatrici Fiat Mod. 14\/35 da 8 mm, venne impiegato in Etiopia e durante la Guerra civile spagnola, dove su alcuni mezzi l'armamento venne potenziato con l'installazione di un fucilone controcarro Solothurn da 20 mm. Durante il conflitto mondiale venne utilizzato in larga misura nel teatro libico, in Grecia e Jugoslavia. Nonostante fosse largamente superato, dopo l'8 settembre L3 venne ancora impiegato dai reparti della Repubblica sociale nelle missioni anti-partigiani. Derived from the Carden-Loyd Mk VI tankette, and armed with two Fiat Mod. 14\/35 8 mm machine guns, it was used in Ethiopia and during the Spanish Civil War, where on some vehicles the armament was enhanced with the installation of a 20 mm Solothurn anti-tank rifle. During the World War it was used to a large extent in the Libyan theater, in Greece and Yugoslavia. Although it was largely outdated, after September the 8th 1943, when Italy surrendered to the Allies, L3 was still employed by the units of the Repubblica sociale (the pro-Axis government that ruled in the northern part of Italy) in anti-partisan missions.
