Detiene tuttora il record di aereo costruito nel maggior numero di esemplari in Italia, 1800 tra il 1938 e il 1944. Venne realizzato su progetto dell'ingegner Celestino Rosatelli sulla scorta delle positive esperienze ottenute dal suo predecessore, il CR32, durante la Guerra civile spagnola. Appena entrato in linea, venne accolto favorevolmente dai piloti italiani, che ne apprezzarono robustezza e manovrabilità. Combatterono nei cieli del fronte francese, greco e soprattutto libico, dove si comportarono bene fino all'entrata in scena dei monoplani inglesi ben più potenti e armati come gli Hurricane e soprattutto gli Spitfire. Nell'aprile del '41, sostituito nelle squadriglie da caccia dai Macchi 200, ebbe una seconda vita operativa come caccia-bombardiere, rivelandosi inaspettatamente valido, grazie alla robustezza della struttura e alla resistenza del motore radiale ai colpi da terra. Impiegato dopo l'8 settembre '43 anche dalla Luftwaffe per azioni di mitragliamento anti-partigiani, l'8 febbraio del 1945 un CR42 entrò nella Storia abbattendo un P-38 Lightning americano nei cieli jugoslavi.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIl \"Falco\" in scala 1\/200 misura 4,13 cm di lunghezza, 4,85 cm di apertura alare superiore e 3,25 di apertura alare inferiore. It still holds the record of aircraft built in the largest number in Italy, 1800 between 1938 and 1944. It was built on a project by the engineer Celestino Rosatelli on the basis of the positive experiences obtained by his predecessor, the CR32, during the Spanish Civil War. As soon as he entered the line, he was welcomed favorably by the Italian pilots, who appreciated its robustness and maneuverability. They fought in the skies of the French, Greek and above all Libyan front, where they performed well until the entry on the scene of the much more powerful and armed English monoplane such as the Hurricanes and above all the Spitfires. In April 1941, replaced in the fighter squadrons by the Macchi 200, he had a second operational life as a fighter-bomber, revealing himself unexpectedly valid, thanks to the sturdiness of the structure and the resistance of the radial engine to hits from the ground.
