After some prototypes, initially equipped with a 47 mm anti-tank gun (the same as the M13), the 75 mm howitzer was finally opted for, installed in a casemate designed over the hull of the M13. The first vehicles were assigned to the units only in January 1942, when they reached the 132nd regiment of the Ariete armoured division in Libya. 60 examples of the M40 were produced, while about another 200 were produced using the hull of the M14\/41. On the field, the Semovente proved to be a valid opponent for the British-American armoured tanks, thanks to EP-Effetto Pronto (the italian hollow-charge rounds) ammunitions.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe 1\/100 scale model of the Semovente M40 is 4.9 cm long, 2.2 wide and 1.85 height.
